VA ODP Girls, Day 6: Another day and another game!

VA ODP Girls 2001 in Marseille
Today may have been our most rewarding and toughest day of all. As you can imagine the girls are starting to tire with the games and the traveling. We have been getting through but this has created some great team bonding experiences and both teams have really come together.

We arrived in Marseille late on Tuesday evening but were up early for breakfast and then walked down to the pier along with seeing multiple tourist attractions in the city. The girls loved the pier and spent a good 20 minutes taking pictures and enjoying the sea breeze and fresh air along with the scenery. After, we visited the local shops followed by a team meal at a local restaurant. We then travelled to a local stadium for the 2001s game against a Regional French Federation select team.

For the 2001 girls this would be the biggest test of the journey so far. The Regional Select team is made up of the best players in this the south of France and they certainly did not disappoint. The game ended with a 2v0 lost but we learned a lot about ourselves as a team. The French team provided us with multiple problems through out the game. The pace of the game certainly took us a while to adapt to,  their ability to get on the ball and play, put us under pressure which is something we struggled with. We found ourselves 2v0 down within in 15 minutes of the game but after some minor adjustments we recovered and produced a much better second half performance.

After the game the girls were able to spend some time in the clubhouse with the French players socializing and getting to know them a little bit better. The experience they had was so productive on and off the field. Note: The 1999s were to play on Day 7.

The day ended with a team meal at a local restaurant in Marseille!

Thanks

Matt
